Syllable has an Open Vowel (as in the case of נוֹרָא (awesome) where the Holem (◌וֹ) is an Open Vowel). An unstressed Closed Syllable, on the other hand, has a Closed Vowel (as in the case of אֹהֶל (tent) where the Segol (ֶ) is a Closed Vowel). This, then, is the rule regarding unstressed syllables: Open Syllables which are unstressed end in Open Vowels, Closed Syllables if they are unstressed end in a consonant and contain a Closed Vowel.
